U4GM Where to Start Gear Artificing in Arknights Endfield

I didn't take Gear Artificing seriously until I realised my build was "good enough" on paper but still getting bullied in late fights. That's when I started looking for ways to squeeze more out of gold gear, and even checked out Arknights endfield accounts for sale while comparing how other players were gearing up. The whole system comes out of that Wuling City thread with Lian Xiaowu and Chen Qianyu, where you learn the Hongshan Swordmancers and Endfield Industries basically tried to break the normal limits on equipment. It's not flashy. It's just… stubborn progress.

What you can and can't artificing

First thing you'll notice: artificing only touches gold-quality gear. Nothing else matters, so don't waste time dreaming up clever workarounds. To roll an upgrade, you have to feed it another gold item from the exact same slot. Same slot, no exceptions. Then you need an Artificing Catalyst tied to the region where the target piece originally dropped, which sounds simple until your storage starts filling with "maybe later" duplicates from three different zones. You'll end up planning routes around catalysts, not the other way around, and that's kind of the point.

Wins, losses, and why it still feels worth it

When an upgrade lands, it's a clean, flat bump to a real stat you actually feel, like Agility, Will, or Battle Skill Damage Bonus. But you can't just stack one stat forever; each stat has a cap on how many times it can be boosted on a single item. The rough part is the failure rate. Miss the roll and your catalyst is gone, and the sacrificed gold gear goes with it. No refunds, no "try again" button. There is a pity bar, though: each fail pushes your Artificing Progress up, and once it fills, the next attempt on that specific item will succeed. People also toss in higher-level fodder to nudge the base chance upward. It's pricey, but if the piece is already close to perfect, you'll probably do it anyway.

Template crates and the daily hunt

After you've lived in the artificing menu for a while, the game opens another loop. Fiona, your Comms Officer, will message about Gear Template Crates, tied to these environmental simulation devices scattered across the world. They passively process template data and eventually spit out crates, which is basically the game bribing you to keep roaming. Your terminal's R&D Center gets sensor updates, so you can scan and track the signals, and the map usually funnels you toward early hotspots like Ojyong. It turns into a quick daily routine: scan, travel, loot, then go back to tinkering.

Keeping your sanity while chasing perfect rolls

The trick is accepting that artificing is a long game, not a one-night grind. Keep a small stash of same-slot gold pieces for fodder, but don't hoard everything or you'll drown in indecision. Use catalysts where you can farm them reliably, and save the expensive "higher-level fodder" play for items you'll actually keep for endgame.
