Diablo 4 Crafting Tips: U4GM Expert Guide

Most players do not lose materials because they lack patience. They lose them by touching the wrong stat too early. The Horadric Cube rewards a calmer approach, especially when a prized Greater Affix is involved. Before you spend Primordial Dust on your D4 items, decide which affixes must stay, which ones can go, and whether the piece is worth taking into the dangerous Transfiguration process.

Protect the Good Stat First

Say you find a weapon with the Greater Affix your build has been waiting for. Do not rush it into the Cube. Visit the Enchanter, select that Greater Affix, review the offered replacements, then choose "No Change" and leave. The game will treat that stat as previously handled by the Enchanter, so later Cube rerolls will leave it alone. It is a small step, but it can save an excellent item. There is one catch: after securing that protection, use the Cube for the other affixes rather than trying to enchant another slot.

Build the Base Before Chasing Perfect Rolls

A Magic or Rare item gives you room to tidy things up. If one affix clearly does not belong, remove it before raising the item to Legendary quality. Legendary gear does not offer the same cleanup option, so an awkward stat may stay with you for the entire project. When a Legendary item already has the wrong type of affix, use Chaotic Reroll to move it into another group. Once the slot lands in the right group, Focused Reroll can search within that group for the effect your build actually uses.

Use Protector's Prisms for Life, Resistances, and other defensive needs.
Use Aggressive Prisms for Attack Speed, Critical Strike Damage, and related offensive effects.
Use Pragmatic Prisms for utility or movement, while Adept's Prisms cover Core Stats and Skill Ranks.

Spend Prisms With a Clear Plan

Prisms work best when each one has a specific job. Do not treat them as generic fuel. If you need Dexterity or a Skill Rank, reach for an Adept's Prism; Core Stats are not part of the offensive group. Add one affix at a time and check the result before moving on. That slower rhythm feels less exciting, but it keeps the pool focused and makes every failed roll easier to understand.

Leave Transfiguration Until Nothing Else Matters

Transfigure Item can produce a remarkable result on Legendary, Unique, or Mythic gear, but it can also leave the item unable to receive further changes. Treat it as the last action, not a way to rescue unfinished equipment. Add sockets, complete Tempering, settle the affixes, and finish Masterworking first. The Kullean Prism is more flexible on Amulets because it adds a bonus Aspect while keeping the item open for further work. The Entropic Prism offers safer limits, yet removes the strongest possibilities and closes the item to future changes.

Make Each Material Count

Good Cube work is less about chasing a miracle roll and more about protecting your choices. Clean the base, secure valuable Greater Affixes, choose the correct Prism, and only then spend heavily on rerolls. When the item is ready for its last risk, having reliable D4 items buy options nearby can help you avoid sacrificing a strong piece before your build is ready.
